US not faithful to diplomacy: Iranian diplomat tells NAM
TEHRAN — Addressing the representatives of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the UN headquarters in New York, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh issued an indictment of Washington’s foreign policy on Thursday, warning that the U.S. is systematically replacing international law with a “dangerous order” rooted in coercion and intimidation.
The briefing provided a high-level Iranian perspective on the “total war” launched by the U.S. and Israel—a conflict Tehran characterizes as a hybrid campaign involving direct military aggression, economic strangulation, and sophisticated psychological operations.
Khatibzadeh linked recent political and media pressures to the “strategic failure” of Iran’s adversaries during the 12-day war in June 2025, suggesting that Washington and Tel Aviv are now using “media warfare” to compensate for their inability to achieve military objectives.
“The United States has shown it is not faithful to the path of diplomacy,” Khatibzadeh stated. “In practice, it has sacrificed dialogue and engagement at the altar of pressure, threats, and a policy of destabilization.”
A central theme of the address was the “meaningful link” between battlefield developments and the surge in hostile media activity.
Khatibzadeh asserted that mainstream outlets, under the direction of Israel and the U.S., have launched an all-encompassing deception campaign.
This effort, he argued, aims to normalize “defective propositions” and distorted narratives to manufacture the domestic and international pretexts necessary for further foreign intervention.
Beyond the immediate conflict, the deputy minister warned that the U.S.-led push toward unilateralism threatens the very fabric of global security.
He emphasized that the shift away from established international rules toward a power-based hierarchy is a trend that will ultimately “entrap all countries,” particularly independent and developing nations.
Addressing the domestic situation in Iran, Khatibzadeh provided a sharp distinction between civil rights and foreign subversion.
He reaffirmed that the Islamic Republic “recognizes the right of the people to voice their legitimate demands.” However, he made it clear that the state would not tolerate the “intervention and direction of foreign-guided terrorist cells” whose primary goal is to compromise national stability under the guise of protest.
At the end of the session, NAM representatives expressed grave concern over the rising tide of unilateralism and the erosion of international norms.
The delegates reaffirmed the necessity of adhering to the UN Charter and respecting national sovereignty.
NAM declared its solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran, signaling a collective rejection of the “politics of force” and a renewal of the Global South’s commitment to a multipolar world.
